Growing Cucumbers

Cucumbers can be tricky as they have a tendency to rot as seedlings.

Yes, you’ve guessed it. I have acquired a few mature seedlings to give me the best chance of a cucumber crop!

Again, if you want to try yourselves growing them from seed, sow the seeds indoors, on their sides, as with the pumpkin, squash and courgette, around March to mid April. Water sparingly until they start to grow strongly. Move to a pot in a warm sheltered spot outside at the end of May. To do well, they need a very large pot all to themselves with plenty of watering and feeding. Train up a stem and pinch out the side shoots unless you are growing a bush variety which would do well in a hanging basket or window box.

As this instruction is for beginners, such as me, its best apparently if we grow female cucumbers, as they are easier !!

Im now going to look up how on earth we tell the difference?
